This year, The Arc New York marks seven decades as an advocate and service provider for New Yorkers with I/DD.
Join us Nov. 14-16 at the Rivers Casino in Schenectady to Celebrate!
We have an inspiring lineup planned including guest speakers, a historic archives exhibit, a photography contest featuring artists from our Chapters, a film forum, our annual Self-Advocate and Direct Support Professional Awards, and of course the 70th Anniversary Gala – featuring a performance by a duo from Flame.
On Thursday, Rebecca Malcome Williams will share her experience raising her son Joey, who has Down Syndrome and medical complications. Williams has been collaborating on a documentary, which began as a short film about her midwife’s practice, but unexpectedly evolved alongside the Williams’ pregnancy to become a story about navigating the life-altering path of becoming a parent of a child with I/DD.
Our Gala speaker, Kathy Buckley wears an impressive number of hats, including actress, comedienne, author, motivational speaker and advocate. Her talk Friday evening, “No Labels – No Limits,” promises laughter and inspiration, drawn from her own challenges and her staunch belief that no one has the right to pass judgement or put limitations on anyone.
On Friday afternoon, we’ll be joined by Joseph MacBeth, Executive Director for the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals, and Saturday we’ll hear from Tony Daloisio, President of Charter Oak Consulting Group and author of Change the Way You Change: 5 Roles of Leaders Who Accelerate Business Performance.
A full schedule and registration will be posted soon.
