A Message From President Sandy Gumerove: Get Out and Vote Nov. 6!

On November 6, your vote will determine the future of the Medicaid program, and the future for our children, siblings and others with developmental disabilities. Your vote will determine how the Medicaid program and other supportive programs will affect our family members and the future ability of The Arc New York Chapters and other organizations to deliver necessary services and supports to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

At stake is the future of Medicaid, our lifeline, and it is at greatest risk. Medicaid is critical for the health and wellbeing of people with developmental disabilities, providing more than 90 percent of funding for our programs and services.

When you vote, consider the voting record of the incumbent and his or opponent, and whether or not he to she will continue to support Medicaid and the vital programs that it enables each of our Chapters and other organizations to provide to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as other issues with which you are concerned.

As family members and advocates, we must share our stories to educate elected officials about how the different services funded by Medicaid have made in the life of your loved one.

We can help decide who represents us in Washington. Our voices must be heard loud and clear. Voting on November 6 will send a clear message to our Representatives that Medicaid must be preserved.

As a family-driven organization, we have a powerful collective voice. Now more than ever, your vote matters.

As a nonprofit organization, The Arc New York cannot take a position for or against any candidate for elected office; however, we can provide non-partisan voter education and get-out-the vote efforts.

I urge you to vote, take your loved ones to vote and encourage your friends and family vote. Vote to preserve Medicaid, the lifeline for people with disabilities. Get out the vote. Let your voice be heard!

Sandy Gumerove
