CONNECTIONS
The Arc New York recently adopted a new mission Statement:
TO PROVIDE PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL, DEVELOPMENTAL, AND OTHER DISABILITIES THE ORDINARY AND EXTRAORDINARY OPPORTUNITIES OF LIFE.
This mission is the foundation of our strategic plan and our shared vision for the future.
Every day Chapter staff are doing the work to make that vision a reality. The Arc New York will share stories from our Chapters and messages from the organization in our monthly Connections newsletter to celebrate those efforts and demonstrate how our mission is being realized across the state.
Issue #22
As we enter this season of reflection and connection, we are reminded of the importance of community — of time spent with family and friends, and of the shared purpose that brings us together. I am deeply grateful to our Chapters, staff, families, and advocates across New York State, whose unwavering dedication continues to strengthen our mission and improve the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Your voices, your advocacy, and your care make this work possible.
That shared commitment carried us through a year that, while demanding, also brought important victories and forward momentum.
We are Stronger Together, and it is through our shared voice and unwavering determination that real, lasting change becomes possible.
Issue #21
Autumn is a season of change and reflection, and this year it carries added meaning as we look back on a summer of intense advocacy and forward to new opportunities to celebrate our community. This issue captures the energy of a season shaped by action, partnership, and a shared commitment to strengthening supports for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Issue #20
I feel a renewed sense of optimism about what lies ahead. The final New York State budget includes meaningful investments in our field, reflecting a deeper understanding of the essential services we provide and needs of our community. It’s a strong step forward—and a powerful reminder that advocacy works.
To every self-advocate, family member, staff person, and ally who spoke out during this year’s budget campaign: thank you. Your voices were heard, your stories made a difference, and your efforts helped shape a stronger, more supportive system for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
These gains are the direct result of persistent and united advocacy—but our work is not done. We must continue to build on this momentum to secure the long-term funding and recognition our community deserves.
We are STRONGER TOGETHER, and it is through our collective voice and unwavering determination that real, lasting change becomes possible.
